Kerala Link volunteers work within 2 organisations in central Kerala: Jyothis Special School in Mavelikara and the Sevika Sanghom Women's Centre in Thiruvalla.
Kerala Link volunteers work for four days a week leaving long weekends free to explore Kerala.
At present we can accommodate 2 volunteers throughout most of the year at each placement.
The Jyothis school year runs from May to March and the Sevika Sanghom school year runs from June to March.
After application, we will provide you with further detailed information about both your chosen placement and the town in which it is situated, as well as give you the option of pre-departure training.
Resources at each placement are limited and you may need to bring with you funds to cover materials expenses. We encourage volunters to raise funds to help cover their volunteering expenses and we can help with your fundraising by providing a letter of introduction to potential sponsors, as well as providing a 'fundraising ideas' leaflet to help you on your way.
Kerala Link employs a local representative who will provide you with a full orientation program during your first week in Kerala. This will include Malayalam language tuition in the mornings and accompanied visits to your placement until you feel you have enough confidence to communicate effectively with the residents/students and staff.
The Kerala Link representative will continue to assist you throughout your placement with regular language lessons, and with any other requirements you may have (Indian cookery lessons have been very popular!).
