Frequently asked questions
Can I choose a child myself?
No. We don't want to encourage the 'picking and choosing' of children. There are over 100 students at Jyothis at present, with many different abilities and disabilities. There are fewer females than males; there are some very young children and some young adults. All these young people need help and by sponsoring one, you will be helping all of them. |
Will my £10 benefit my sponsored child only?
No. We believe it would be inappropriate to single out children to receive financial help above and before others. Your sponsorship amount will help all Jyothis students by funding staff salaries and providing, for example, clothing where most needed, teaching materials and school furniture for the benefit of all.
Can I write to my sponsored child?
Yes, if you would like to. A simple message, which will be translated for the students, with some photographs of you and your family would be appreciated. Please send any items of correspondence through Kerala Link in the first instance. |
Will my child write back to me?
No. The Jyothis students are not taught English and most of them have limited ability to read and write in their own language of Malayalam. The Jyothis staff will endeavour to include a piece of artwork done by your child in one of their reports on your child's progress.
Can I send gifts, for example at Christmas?
Yes, if you wish. Something small would be appreciated and if possible you could try to think of something that the whole school could enjoy - for example, a picture book or a poster for the wall.
